CoachDeck LLC Partners with Veteran Coach Guy Newman on Soccer Drill Cards
San Diego, CA May 4, 2007 – CoachDeck LLC (www.coachdeck.com), a San Diego, CA-based company, has announced that veteran US Soccer player and coach Guy Newman has agreed to provide substantial content on the company’s upcoming CoachDeck for Soccer. CoachDeck is a standard-sized deck of cards containing over 50 drills designed to teach skills and fundamental techniques to youngsters from 6-16. CoachDeck-Soccer is the second product released by the company. In January, CoachDeck-Baseball was introduced to the market with rave reviews. CoachDeck’s product offerings are aimed providing muchneeded assistance to the millions of volunteer coaches in youth athletics who lack either the experience, time or both, required to plan and run an effective practice.
Newman, who holds a United States Soccer Federation “A” license, brings a wealth of experience and know-how to the project. A native of Portsmouth, England, Newman began his professional playing career in 1977, winning a National Championship with the Los Angeles Macabee. He continued his playing career in the NASL, the ASL, and as a member of the US Olympic Team. His final six seasons were spent with the San Diego Sockers of the MISL where he won five indoor and three outdoor championships.
Newman began coaching in 1986 with the Sockers, winning a National Indoor Championship his first season. He went on to coach the Las Vegas Dustdevils, an expansion team in the CISL, in 1994. During his memorable first season as head coach, Newman was faced with many obstacles, including only having a warehouse for an indoor practice facility, and a limited number of local players to choose from in the area. Nonetheless the first-year coach built a team from scratch that finished with the fourth-best record in the CISL at 17-11. In the postseason, Newman piloted the team to upset series victories over the playoffs’ top three seeds, including a two-games to-one championship series triumph over the Dallas Sidekicks in front of a sold-out crowd at Reunion Arena in Dallas.
Newman’s resume also boasts three years coaching experience in the MLS with the Kansas City Wizards where his duties included overseeing the development of the Wizards minor league affiliates. For the past ten years, Newman has focused primarily on youth soccer where he as led several teams to State Championships and serves as director of the prestigious Del Mar Sharks organizations.
Brian Gotta, President of CoachDeck, is pleased have Newman on board. "Guy's experience and pedigree speak for themselves," Gotta said. "His level of professionalism on and off the field is unmatched. And unlike many coaches with his level of talent, he is equally comfortable coaching U6 as U16. I believe the material he has provided to this project will bear that out and that coaches at all levels will benefit from the information in this deck. Now, any volunteer coach can run a practice and it will be as if Guy Newman is there to help."
